The type of school you wish to attend and the subject matter of your studying will determine what type of student visa you must apply for.
When applying for a student visa, you will apply for either an F-1 visa or M-1 visa:
- F-1: An individual will apply for this visa if they will attend university/college, high school, private elementary school, seminary, conservatory, or other academic institutions
- M-1: And individual will apply for this visa if they plan on attending a vocational or other recognized nonacademic institutions, other than a language training program
When applying for a student visa, it may also be necessary to schedule an interview with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Wait times vary based on location, season, and visa type. It is always best to apply early to be safe.
